Let me break it down for you... Monday evening was Phil Tippets presentation. To be honest, I had no clue who he was until said presentation. But now that i do know who he is, man do I respect and admire him!! If you dont know who he is, I strongly suggest you google him.
Tuesday morning was my presentation. 9 am... in the morning... before mid day... before 10am... I was exhausted! I didnt even think Id make it out of bed to be there on time! But I made it, and I was surprisingly less stressed then I expected Id be. I think it was sheer fatigue that kept me relatively calm... I waited my turn to set up my laptop and then around 9:10am, people started coming into the hall... the main hall was devided into three rooms and the Exxploration room was the smallest (duh). About 30 or 40 people showed up, which was cool, cause it was more then 5 but less then 60, so that also helped my nervs.
So, with a big screen to my left, an ear microphone on my head and a spot light in my eyes, I started to talk about who I be. Of course, no one knew who the hell I was, but that was to be expected and was able to make a quick joke about that to lighten the mood. I showed my movie, my artwork, my stuff... all the while interupting my art descriptions with tips and advice or warnings about the industry. I got quite a few laughs when showing my Marvel cards cause I had fun commenting about what Id drawn and why and so on. Thank god my ma and pa gave me the gift of some sort of wit. A really fun moment was when I asked the audience if anyone knew Doop. Only one guy raised his hand, with a big smile on his face. I then described him to the rest of the audience, talking about his language and DoopLand, which also got a few laughs, cause I mean c'mon, Doop is awesome!!
Once Id shown off my work, I then asked for the camera guy to come behind me to shoot me drawing a sketch card live and in full colour. It was extremely stressfull cause Im not a spontanious kind of sketcher... I need time to make my stuff look good.. but anyhow... I had decided to draw the Hulk. I had also decided that I wanted to ask the audience to fill in the blanks. So when I asked them what situation to put the Hulk in, the Doop fan suggested I draw him trying to kiss someone! INTERESTING I said. I then asked who he should be kissing at which point I heard someone say "how bout a character from DC?" hmmmm i said, D...C.... how bout... and then at the same time, I and some other person in the room said Catwoman! So the scene was set. The Hulk would be attempting to kiss Catwoman.
Wow was I struggling!! A full colour sketch card in like 10 minutes?? What was I thinking!? I aint NAR for darn sake! Whilst I drew, I nervously brought up random questions that just popped into my head, such as "Has Betty ever hooked up with the Hulk as the Hulk?" stupid stuff like that, which again got a few laughs and relaxed my nervous hand a bit. I finished the drawing, answered some questions and thanked everybody for coming....
To my surprise, after my presentation, a couple people came up to me to tell me how much they related with what I was saying and that they really liked my work. One guy even gave me his portfolio on DVD, which I thought was really cool. Two people also asked me about concept art for projects theyre working on.. so yeah, fun stuff....
I was then escorted to the VIP room (majorly awkward)
On that day I also met the marvelous person who had plugged my art!! His name is Didier Kaade! I didnt even know the guy! He just saw my stuff on Facebook and that was that! They wanted someone local and they also wanted more chicks to participate in the event... so voilà!
So that was evening one and day two... I shall write about evening two and day/evening three later today... SO much to tell you about!!
To be continued...
(Thanks for your awesome comments! will update soon!!)
