Spider Queenby ~KKADUKENI love this piece for it's character design, overall beauty and originality. I also really enjoy the layout. The scene has depth with a lot going on, but your eye always ends up focusing on the queen because of the strength of her pose. However, it feel a bit strange to me that the destruction and death is in front of the queen rather than behind her. For example, the buildings in the background are intact despite the fierce dragon and spider activity. I just think that the queens impact/power would be better shown if the destruction followed her. Her design and pose scream power and control and the background has the potential to really emphasize that. With that said, this is an excellent and really interesting piece.

CommentsDevious CommentsThanks for the crit, britbrakdown. I agree with you on all points, I like the fact that the attention focuses back on the spider queen, that for many reasons, was the intention so I'm glad that you noticed that
You're welcome! I'm relieved you found it to be constructive.
-- children are evil, watch your backs. [link] I tried to rate it according to the DA definitions of each category. "impact – Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind?" The level of destruction is one thing, but I've already mentioned that. For the "evoke strong emotions" part, perhaps you could try to show the impact on the town folk? Something like a mom running away terrified, clutching her baby in her arms. I think that adding a human emotion to the scene would inspire a stronger reaction from your viewers. It doesn't have to be "in your face" cause that would take away from the focus on the queen, but having it somewhere in the scene could add life and feeling to the piece.
-- children are evil, watch your backs. [link] No kidding! In an age of useless features, DA has really done well with this one.
Keep up the awesome work. -- children are evil, watch your backs. [link] |
